My name is Evando Ricardo Cardoso do Nascimento
I am currently a a first year student at Wells College located in Upstate New York.
I was born in Angola, Luanda for those of you who don't know where that is it is localized in Southern Africa near Namibia and Zambia. My parents are both Angolans who that makes me %100 African! the official language spoken there is Portuguese, I speak fluent Portuguese.
Back in 1993 our Family moved to the United States, Queens, New York was my home for the next 9 years! We moved back to Africa soon enough and years later I ended up here back in the U.S.
I would've loved to attend College in New York City but all those distractions would have kept from me from studying so coming to all the way to Wells College was the best idea, its located in a quite area, peaceful, the best thing about Wells since I've been here would have to be the traditions and the people who are surprisingly very nice. I say that because back in my old High school and the past schools I have attended I have encountered nothing but snobby people with bad attitudes, so coming here to Wells and meeting all these nice people has been a surprise to me.
My life has been full of twists and turns and ups and downs, I have come a long way, and hope to keep it going.
Oh gosh, I'm so glad you like Wells, I can't tell you. I love it here, but so many people seem unhappy with it. And I get complaining, because hey, it's college, it's our right. But it's still such a good college, usually, it seems to me. And the people really are nice.
ReplyDeleteGosh, it's so huge that you moved from here to Africa and back again. We moved a lot when I was a kid, but always in the same state. I can't even imagine. How do you cope with the differences, and being so far from your family?
(Also, re: having a lot to say? Yeah, I have more trouble stopping myself babbling than the other way around. Sorry.)
Wow what a journey. I think that the blog is appropriately titled! So the thing you said about going to school in the city and being distracted had not occurred to me and now I am freaking out a little!
ReplyDeleteSo where do you live now in the us or in Angola ?
Distraction was one of the reasons why I did not go to school in Manhattan. I found ways to distract myself here though, so I guess my reasoning wasn't to helpful. Don't be like me! lol Be like your mom Vanessa haha
ReplyDeleteHello Evando,
ReplyDeleteGreat to have you at Wells! I'm glad that you speak Portuguese. You could make a lesson plan teaching some Portuguese.
How often do you go home?
Tell us about your swimming team. Do you like it? How often do you practice?
I'm glad that you enjoyed living in NYC. My son is there now, working and studying at CUNY. He loves it! Yes, there are distractions but he needed more activity. He grew up in a small town and there was nothing to do.
I need your lesson plan. It was due on Tuesday. Presentations are due on Thursday. :)
Evando,
ReplyDeletethat is very interesting that you moved back to africa and came back to the us again!
new york is alright but im sure you like the weather down there better!
I know what you mean about high school, people were the same at mine too.

That's nice that you've been able to see that not all people in the world a snobby jerks. That's also why I really love wells is for the traditions and peaceful environment.
